A PDF splitter is a tool that divides one PDF document into two or more smaller PDF files. FreeToolsKit's splitter runs the pdf-lib library inside your browser: you choose page ranges such as 1-3, 5, 8-10, or pull every page into its own file, then download the parts separately or all at once as a ZIP. Your file never leaves your device — nothing is uploaded to a server.

How do you split a PDF?

  1. Drop your PDF onto the panel or choose it with the button — it must have at least 2 pages.
  2. Pick “Page ranges” to split chosen pages, or “Every page” to make one PDF per page.
  3. For ranges, type pages like 1-3, 5, 8-10 — the panel tells you how many PDFs you'll get.
  4. Press “Split PDF” and wait for the progress bar to finish.
  5. Download each part separately, or take them all at once with “Download all as ZIP”.

What is the Split PDF used for?

  • Sending only the signed pages of a contract instead of the whole file.
  • Pulling the invoice pages out of a long scanned PDF for an accountant.
  • Splitting a course reader into one file per chapter for sharing with students.
  • Extracting the pages you need from a large report to email on a slow connection.
  • Separating each page of a scanned document stack into individual files for filing.

Frequently asked questions

Are my PDF files uploaded to a server?

No. Splitting runs in your browser using the pdf-lib JavaScript library. Your document never leaves your device, is never stored and cannot be seen by anyone else.

Is this PDF splitter free?

Yes — free, with no sign-up and no watermark on the split files. You can split as many PDFs as you like.

How do I write the page ranges?

Type pages separated by commas, with ranges written with a dash: 1-3, 5, 8-10. Pages are numbered from 1, and each range becomes its own PDF file. A page can appear in more than one range — it is then included in both files.

Is there a limit on file size or page count?

One PDF at a time, up to 100 MB. There is no fixed page limit, but a very long PDF split into one file per page can take a while to process on a slow device — everything still runs locally in your browser.

What happens if one file is not a valid PDF?

It is flagged with an error when you add it and splitting never starts. Password-protected PDFs cannot be split because their pages cannot be read — remove the password in your PDF reader first.
